Link to this article: http://www.nascsa.org/news/srd10.09.pdf The National Association of State Controlled Substances Authorities State Regulatory Developments October 2009 Pharmacists - Proposed rule of the State Board of Pharmacy would amend regulations to revise standards of professional conduct for pharmacists. The proposal would set forth provisions for the transfer, acceptance, storage, inspection, distribution, and dispensing of donated drugs. The proposal also would establish related enforcement provisions. Comments are due Oct. 28, 2009. Contact: Mark Johnston; State Board of Pharmacy; (208-334-2356) Controlled Substances - Final rule of the Board of Pharmacy amends regulations regarding controlled substances. The rule establishes requirements for issuing multiple prescriptions for the same Schedule II controlled substance for dispensing to the same patient over a period of time not to exceed a 90-day supply. The rule is effective Oct. 28, 2009. Contact: Terry Witkowski; Board of Pharmacy; (515-281-5279) Controlled Substances/Institutional Pharmacies - Final rule of the Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy, amends regulations to clarify requirements for witnessing the destruction of controlled substances in institutional pharmacies. The rule is effective July 21, 2009. Contact: Rebecca Poston; DOH, Board of Pharmacy; (850-245-4292) Drug Manufacturers, Wholesalers, and Distribution Agents - Temporary rule of the Board of Pharmacy amends regulations to update and clarify registration requirements for drug manufacturers and wholesalers. The rule also establishes a new category of drug distribution agents to accommodate entities that are involved in drug manufacturing and distribution but do not take ownership or possession of actual product and are not licensed with the FDA as manufacturers. In addition, the rule clarify the status of packagers and brokers, address surety bonds for wholesale drug outlets, and update the fee schedule.
