About the scholarships

The Executive Committee of the National Association of State Controlled Substances Authorities (NASCSA) has authorized the establishment of six scholarships this year, in the amount of $1500 each. These scholarships will be offered to state agencies in order to offset travel-related expenses to attend this year’s NASCSA Educational Conference to be held October 20-23, 2009 in San Diego, California. To ensure fairness, scholarships will be awarded based on a lottery of qualifying applicants for each of the respective scholarships. The deadline for applying for each of the scholarships is July 31, 2009. Scholarship awards will be announced no later than August 10, 2009.
   Applicants may apply for ONLY ONE of the scholarships noted below

Scholarship #1

Purpose: To provide a second person from a NASCSA member state[1] agency that is assumed to have a future leadership role in controlled substance regulation, to attend the Annual NASCSA Conference. This scholarship will provide an introduction to NASCSA and its members to such an individual who, because of their present role in their state agency, would not typically be identified by that group to attend a national conference. This will provide a networking opportunity for the attendee and promote the value of NASCSA as an association and its annual meeting as a resource to that individual.
Open to NASCSA member states[1];
Scholarship will be awarded to a NASCSA member state agency, in good standing, who wishes to nominate a subordinate to attend this year’s Conference;
Nominations must be submitted by supervisory personnel;
Supervisory personnel from the selected state agency must plan to accompany the individual receiving the scholarship to the 2009 conference, in order to be eligible;
The selected recipient of the scholarship must agree to attend the 2009 NASCSA Educational Conference;
Up to six (6) scholarships not to exceed $1500 may be awarded
Nominations must be submitted on the NASCSA scholarship application form and transmitted via e-mail, fax or by mail
    no later than July 31, 2009

Scholarship #2

Purpose: to ensure exposure to NASCSA state members as well as non-member states that have been unable to attend the annual educational conference for the past (2) years due to budgetary constraints.
Open to NASCSA member states[2]  as well as non-member states that have been unable to attend the annual educational conference for the past two (2) years;
Scholarship is open to the state controlled substances authority or, alternatively, a law enforcement agency responsible for investigations related to  pharmaceutical diversion;
In the event both the state controlled substances authority and a law enforcement agency from a single state submit simultaneous applications, the state controlled substance authority will be considered the sole applicant;
Nominations must be submitted by the primary state agency contact (e.g. supervisory personnel and/or agency head);
Successful nominee must agree to attend the 2009 NASCSA educational conference;
Up to six (6) scholarships not to exceed $1500 may be awarded
Nominations must be submitted on the NASCSA scholarship application form and transmitted via e-mail, fax or by mail no later than
