The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced the seizure of Hydra Market, the world's largest and longest-running darknet market. In 2021, Hydra accounted for about 80% of all darknet market-related cryptocurrency transactions, and approximately $5.2 billion in cryptocurrency since 2015. Hydra was an online criminal marketplace that enabled users to buy and sell illicit goods and services, such as illegal drugs and stolen financial information, as well as engage in money laundering. Hydra vendors offered a variety of drugs for sale, including opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, and heroin, with photographs and descriptions of their products.
